Singers ages 8 - 19 are welcome to audition. Placement will be made into one of three choirs based on ability.
Children joining the Bel Canto Choir (beginning choir) must demonstrate an ability to sing in tune and to remember and sing short musical phrases. They must also have a willingness to work with the director and with a group of other children. They must also be able to read the English language with ease and comprehension.
Children joining the Amadeus Choir (advanced treble choir) must have the above abilities. Additionally they need the ability to read music and to sing simple melodies at sight. Singers moving up from the Bel Canto Choir must be comfortable with all the contents of Book One of A Young Singer's Journey.
Those joining the Camerata Youth Choir (S.A.T.B.) must have experience singing in a choir and be able to read music.
It will be helpful if the singers know one verse of either America the Beautiful or My Country 'Tis of Thee. All choir members should be auditioning because of a sincere desire to participate in this choir program. Parents must be willing to commit to a high level of responsibility concerning rehearsals and performances.
How often will I rehearse?
The choirs rehearse once a week from September through May. Included in the rehearsal times are voice training, ear-training, musc theory, and music reading.
How many concerts will I sing?
Typically, the Bel Canto Choir sings three or four times during the season. The Amadeus and Camerata Choirs sing more often.
